Ulf Franke receives medal from the King of Sweden 29 January 2010
The SCC Secretary General Mr Ulf Franke has received a medal from the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, for important work in international arbitration. Mr Franke has established the SCC as one of the most successful arbitral institutions worldwide. When Mr Franke arrived at the SCC it had only a few cases per year. Last year, however, the SCC received 215 new arbitration cases, setting a new record.
Mr Franke started his career at the SCC in 1975. He has initiated the publication of arbitration law journals and organized major international conferences dealing with different topics in international arbitration. During 1970’s the SCC established itself as an important and neutral centre for the resolution of East West disputes.
No doubt Mr Franke’s commitment and determination have had great influence on the development of arbitration legislation and practices in Sweden and internationally. During the 1990’s the SCC developed modern Arbitration Rules and pioneering Rules for Expedited Arbitrations and, moreover, a new Swedish Arbitration Act was born.
Mr Franke has also been ICCA Secretary General, chairperson of IFCAI and a member of the Global Centre for Dispute Resolution Research.
