About the Mediation Institute

In addition to arbitration the SCC also offers mediation services. The SCC Mediation Institute was established in 1999 and has its own Board with lawyers specialized in this field of alternative dispute resolution.

The Board decides on appointment of mediators and the mediation costs.

Mediation is an alternative dispute resolution method for parties not wishing to engage in formal litigation or arbitral proceedings. The outcome of a successful mediation is a settlement agreement between the parties enabling the parties to continue their co-operation and focus on doing business.

The SCC has adopted Mediation Rules, which offer flexible and efficient procedures to facilitate parties in reaching a settlement. The parties must have agreed to mediate the dispute.

In recent years the SCC has witnessed an increasing awareness of mediation as a constructive tool for solving commercial disputes.
